walkout
may 29

Join the NYC student community for a pro-democracy, pro-constitution, non-partisan walkout against the Trump administration’s violations of the US constitution, inhumane deportations without due process, and attacks on free speech.

our flagship branch

We the Students was founded in NYC. and NYC continues to be our strongest and biggest branches, already having organized a successful walkout on 5/27 2025 with over 500 students from around 25 different highschools, and having afterschool clubs focused on civil education at many schools. We would love to work with your NYC high school! Becoming a School Captain would mean you would both lead your school community in participating in city-wide events like future walkouts, as well as hosting club meetings on democracy and combating fascism. If your school isn't on this list of schools that already have a WTS branch, you can apply to become the School Captain for your NYC highschool! If your school already does have a branch, make sure to participate in as many school meetings and city-wide events as possible, and check in with your School Captain for available leadership roles.

become a school captain for our
5/29 walkout!

The absolute best way you can contribute to making the walkout as big and impactful as possible is by becoming a school captain--even if there are already others at your school. You'll be in charge of spreading word of the walkout to everyone at your school. Learn more about role specifics in the form!

committees

Committees are the different branches of the NYC We the Students leadership team! They meet every Sunday at 7:00pm via Zoom and occasionally in-person. They are each led by another NYC student and are a great way to contribute to NYC political action, build the student community, and gain different leadership, planning, research, or more skills, depending on which committee you join. You can read about each committee below.

Events Committee

  • Meets every week to discuss upcoming events! No problem at all if you have to miss meetings--as long as you show up to more than one meeting a month, you're good. The bigger your contributions and more you participate, though, the bigger role you'll have in WTS events and WTS in general.

  • Organizes & coordinates WTS-run walkouts

  • Coordinates WTS participation in different days of protest & action

  • Organizes regular WTS community events

  • Organizes WTS Art Gallery & Poetry Reading type of events

  • Brainstorm new creative, engaging community-driven and protest-driven events

Media & Platform Committee

  • Meets every week to discuss & brainstorm posts of the week! No problem at all if you have to miss meetings--as long as you show up to more than one meeting a month, you're good. The bigger your contributions and more you participate, though, the bigger role you'll have in WTS events and WTS in general.

  • Create one social media post a week including videos & info/canva posts.

  • Brainstorm ideas to grow the platform.

  • Eventually establish our newsletter.

Civic Education Committee

  • Meets every week! No problem at all if you have to miss meetings--as long as you show up to more than one meeting a month, you're good. The bigger your contributions and more you participate, though, the bigger role you'll have in the committee and WTS in general.

  • Creates yearly curriculums on Civic Ed for the entire WTS community to follow

  • Eventually work up to lobbying

Finance & Fundraising Committee â€‹
